The Last Commencement

The final commencement of the old Monroe Institute took place May 12, 1892, with Dr. W. Pope Yeaman delivering the address. The program presented was as follows:

Piano duet, Lena Wunch and Minnie Dinwiddie; solo, Susie Smith; prayer, the Rev. A. F. Pearson; solo, Maggie McConachic; vocal solo, Meda Branch: address, Dr. Yeaman; solo, Eugenia Hardesty.

Miss Value Utterback was valedictorian and the other members of the graduating class were: Myrtie Ransdall and Mollie Cochlin. The Institute conferred the Baccalaureate Degree.

Miss Vallie Utterback was valedictorian of the last class to graduate from the Monroe Institute in 1892 after which its doors were closed forever.
