J. B. STONE J. B. Stone, 80 of Hotchkiss, CO, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at his home. J. B. Stone was born on May 16, 1925, to Jesse B. and Dollie W. Stone in Moberly. He lived in Moberly until he was 18. He then went to serve his country in World War II. J. B’s 29th Infantry Division landed on Normandy, on D-Day, June 6, 1944 and fought across France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. J. B. was wounded twice, the last it was severe enough for him to be sent home. He was sent to the hospital in Fort Carson, CO, where he met his wife Darlene. After only three months together, they were married. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on November 14, 1995. Darlene preceded him in death on October 6, 2000, in Eckert, CO. J. B. held many jobs, but the one he enjoyed the most was painting houses. His wife and four daughters helped him at different times. His hobbies were playing bingo, baseball and bowling. HE enjoyed going out to eat with family and friends. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a life member of DAV, a life member of the VFW Black Canyon Post #9777, a life member of Hotchkiss Elks Lodge #1807, and a life member of the Purple Heart Club. J. B. served as a mayor of Hotchkiss in the late 60’s. He also served as mayor in the mid-70’s and served as a councilman. He was a fireman for 12 years and served as the president of the Fire Board for a number of years. He is survived by four daughters, Janice McCabe and her husband George of Hotckiss, CO; Carol Spore and husband Wes, of Hotchkiss, CO; Terry Hatfield of Norwood, CO; and Diana Meek and husband Brad, of Hotchkiss, CO. Additional survivors are his grandchildren, Kevin McCabe and wife Melanie, Karen Henderson and husband Him, Tisha LaFramboise and husband Tom, Kerri Spore, Alan Hatfield, Kelli Garner and husband Mike; and great-grandchildren, Samantha and Makalah Henderson, Ty and Trever LaFramboise; two brothers, Marvin and Lil Stone of Missouri, and Wilson Stone of Missouri; two sisters, Wilma Kaiser and friend Cliff of Illinois, and Mildren Nelson and husband Elmer of Missouri. A visitation was held on February 20, at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss, CO. Funeral service was held at 11:a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge #1807 in Hotchkiss, CO, with Reverend Gerald Davidson and Reverend Jim Downs officiating.
