Obituary for Richard H. Stephens
 
Obituary (unknown newspaper)- Richard Stephens died at the home of his son, Claud Stephens, in 
Liberty, Friday of last week.  He would have reached his eighty-eighth birthday in October.  Mr. 
Stephens is survived by two sons, Orph Stephens, living west of Madison and Claud, of Liberty.  His 
wife died twenty-one years ago.  A daughter, Myrtle, died when eleven months of age.  "Uncle 
Rich", as he was familiarly called, resided near Ash for many years and was a kindly man and an 
honored citizen.  His passing is deplored by many life long friends in this section.  The body was 
brought to the Thompson funeral home in Madison, Friday.  On Saturday funeral services were held 
at the Orph Stephens home, conducted by Rev. L. M. White.  Burial was made in the Alexander 
cemetery.  The son, Orph Stephens, is in failing health and at his request the obsequies were held 
at his home.
