Shiloh
Cumberland Presbyterian Church is situated about four miles
west of Paris. It was organized about 1878 or 1879, and now has
some 70 members. Rev. T. W. Baker has been pastor ever since its
organization. A Sunday school is held regularly.

A Short Sketch of Shiloh Presbyterian
Church
as related by Mr. Estil Stone, the oldest
living member of the now defunct church, and also the custodian of
the old Book of Sessions.

The Cumberland Presbyterian Church,
(later Presbyterian USA) known as Shiloh, was organized Jan. 12,
1878, with the following members, John H. Howell & wife, James
R. Howell, George A. Moore, Wm. Arnold, Fannie Arnold, Addie
(Arnold) Moore, Jno. W. Arnold, Bettie Byrd Bryan, Emma Byrd
Moore, Robert T. Moore, Lizzie Woods, Sallie Woods, Fannie Woods,
Martha Curtright.
Mr. Stone is uncertain, as to whether the
church was dedicated Aug. of 1878 or 1879.
Mr.
Isaac Long donated the one and one-half acres of land for his part
of the donation to the Church. When they needed a cemetery Mr.
Long wanted to divide the land into lots and sell privately to
members for a good price. The Trustees then appealed to Cephus
Fox, of Paris, the mortgage holder of the Long farm. It was
through the efforts of Mr. Fox that the trustees bought the ½
acre for $25.00, for a burying ground. The cemetery is still owned
by the congregation, but the church house and church ground
reverted back to Mr. Long’s heirs, as per the provision so
stated in the original deed.
