H. J. BLANTON 


“Paris, Mo., Jan 8 (AP) – H.J. (Jack) Blanton, one of the nation’s best-known country editors, died at his home tonight of a heart attack after writing his editorial column. He was 85 years old. Mr. Blanton, seriously ill the last few months, was editor and co-publisher of the weekly Monroe County Appeal here, founded in 1873 by his father, the late B.F. Blanton. Mr. Blanton was the subject of a picture essay by Norman Rockwell in The Saturday Evening Post in 1946. His newspaper column was titled “Hints by the Horse Editor.” He also was the author of a book, “When I Was a Boy.”
