Dream This agreement
made on this the 18th day of April A.D. 1891 by and between Isom Roberts
and Bert C. Roberts parties of the first part and J. C. Stephens, J. J.
Bassett, J. B. Quisenbury, H. Poland, S. W. Riley, G. 0. Cupparidge and
G. E. Green, Trustees for the subscribers to the Stock of Middle Grove
College, parties of the second part Witnesseth That whereas the said
parties of the second part and the subscribers to the stock aforesaid
for whom they are acting and being in and in the vicinity of Middle
Grove Monroe County Missouri, are desirous of securing the establishment
of an educational institution at or near said town, in which, as well as
the ordinary branches of learning, those shall also be taught, which are
usually taught in colleges and high schools, which such other studies as
may from time to time be determined on by the said parties of the first
part, in order that they may have the advantage of having a School of
the character aforesaid in their midst, and whereas they are desirous of
securing the services of the Said parties of the first part in
conducting and building of said school. Now therefore, the said parties
of the second part, in consideration of the premises agree to purchase
or otherwise secure the title in fee free from any incumberance, to a
tract of land in or adjoining said town. Containing about eight acres of
land, and being Eight acres off the South side of a Tract of twelve
acres on the north side of the road running west from Middle Grove and
being a part of the farm of J. L. Newman in Section 8 T 53 Range 11. and
to erect on said land a School Building with Boarding House. The parties of the
first part agree to make all the necessary improvements, such as fences,
privies, wells, etc. on said land, and to conduct a School on the same,
all the ordinary branches to be taught in the same as well as the
branches usually taught in high school and colleges, to do all in their
power to make the same a first class School, and to give it a reputation
tending to insure its permanency, adding from time to time such teachers
as may be necessary to preserve its efficiency, and to furnish the board
house connected with said school, with all furniture necessary to
accommodate such pupils as may desire to board and lodge in the same and
to keep the School building and boarding house insured, and the proceeds
of any insurance to be used in rebuilding the same. Filed for Record
