Anderson Cemetery

Submitted by Darla Henderson, December  2003.

Submitter’s notes: There isn't name for this cemetery (I'm not sure who knew about it last), but I would call it the Anderson cemetery since the owner of the land at that time was Samuel Anderson, my great-great-great-great grandfather.  My cousin, also a descendant of Samuel, noticed that when Samuel sold the land, it mentioned a cemetery.  He and his family searched for it based on the deed records and discovered it this spring or summer.  All of the stones are on the ground and we had to dig down to uncover my great-great-great grandmother's stone (I've been looking for her for more than 15 years).  The other stones were closer to the surface. So far, we have uncovered 3 stones for 4 graves.  We are not finished searching for other stones (we have been told there are others but they may be covered by dirt).  DH

Location: This cemetery is located on private land owned by Karen Hunt off of route 107.  From the deed records:  Section 5, Township 55, Range 8 West - ". . . excepting . . . one square rod of ground including the family burying ground of the said Samuel Anderson . . . "  John Quarles (uncle of Samuel Clemens a.k.a. Mark Twain) sold Samuel the land.  Samuel sold the land to Joseph Smelser on the 12th day of January, 1870.  Deed recorded:  28 Mar 1870.  During the time of the burials, the land this cemetery sits on was owned by Samuel Anderson and his wife Permelia Norman Anderson, both of Boone county KY.
